In the forest I knew.
John Berger writes that ‘the silence after a felled tree has fallen is like the silence immediately after death. The same sense of culmination. For a moment the tree’s weight accords with the weight of the finished act.’ In the forest I knew weaves together two coinciding events: the artist’s experience of grief as she loses a loved one to cancer; and the concurrent clearing of an easeway to lay a fracked gas pipeline through the forests of Blue Mountain Reservation, the artist’s home. External and internal landscapes are mirrored in a collection of original photographs, personal journal entries, archival images of New York infrastructure and other ephemera.
